STANDING FOR THE SNOHO

As a resident of Everett, Holly has witnessed the environmental destruction caused by unchecked development, standing alongside her neighbors as we lost habitats, ecosystems, and access to nature throughout our city. She began her journey toward change right in her own front yard and then collaborated with her neighbors at the NW Everett Neighborhood Association. Holly spearheaded the creation of the city’s first Native Plant Display Garden at Drew Nielsen Neighborhood Park—a project that required years of hard work and dedication.

With development encroaching on our cherished spaces, Holly recognized the urgent need for local initiatives to protect what remains. She reached out to friends in Olympia, WA, who had recently launched an initiative to grant legal standing to the Deschutes River Watershed. Inspired by their efforts, Holly saw an opportunity to bring this important idea to Everett and safeguard our own Snohomish River Watershed.

Though we started late in the initiative process, our campaign quickly gained momentum. As we gathered signatures in the following weeks, it became clear just how deeply our community cares for the river and understands the importance of protecting it. In an unprecedentedly short time, we collected the necessary signatures, empowering the citizens of Everett to have a strong voice for their river.
